Types of Figurative Language:
alliteration = repeating beginning sounds of neighboring words
simile = using "like" or "as" to compare two things
metaphor = drawing a comparison between two things to show a deeper meaning
onomatopoeia = words that portray sounds (ex: buzz, zoom, pow)
hyperbole = exaggeration used to make a point (ex: mile-high ice cream cones)
allusion = a reference made to some character, person, event, etc. that many people would be familiar with
oxymoron = adjacent words that seem to contradict one another (ex: little giant)
personification = giving an object human characteristics
